Primary Responsibilities:

 

The Directional Drill Operators will report directly to the Foreman or Superintendent and will be an integral member of the team. The responsibilities will include, but not be limited to the following:

  • Setting up worksite (equipment placement, reel trailer placement, etc.).
  • Operating directional drill, mini-excavator and other equipment to place underground plant facilities.
  • Understanding of and ability to perform potholing (exposure of utilities).
  • Understanding of and ability to perform locating of utilities.
  • Understand clearances from other utilities, ground, road, highway, sidewalk and non-pedestrian areas.
  • Assist in loading and unloading equipment and supplies needed for daily work assignments.
  • Understanding of and ability to perform proper transportation, handling and placement of conduits (rolled and stick).
  • Understanding of and ability to perform transportation of fiber reels.
  • Understanding of and ability to perform installation of fiber cables in conduits.
  • Understanding of and ability to properly set and secure pedestals and vaults.
  • Ability to read and interpret network prints.
  • Perform tasks associated with installation and maintenance of underground utilities.
  • Hand digging using shovel and mechanical tools.
  • Ensuring all team members are prepared for their work shifts (on time, proper attire, etc.).
  • Working with and encourage team productivity to meet or exceed scheduling goals.
  • Operate or work around heavy equipment and machinery.
  • Work in congested or remote areas.
  • Work with Superintendents, Foremen, and co-workers to learn new tasks.
  • Assist in traffic control.
  • Ensure and inspect quality of work.
  • Follow all OSHA and company safety standards.
  • Restore worksite or anything disturbed during construction at completion of daily work.
