Traveling Technician

Department: Infrastructure/System Integrity

Reports to: Fleet Manager

Location: Charlotte, NC - Project sites located throughout the United States.

Job Description:

Equipment Mechanic to assist with preventative maintenance and repairs of equipment in the field. You will travel to various job sites to make electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic repairs on equipment such as Bridge Inspection Trucks, Bridge Inspection Trailers, Diesel 2500/3500 Crew Trucks, trailers, etc. Applicants should have some experience with diesel equipment repair so they can determine what parts and tools are necessary for repairs. Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical repairs as well as preventative maintenance
  • Troubleshoot issues with diesel and gasoline engines
  • Determine what parts and tools are necessary to make repairs
  • Complete shop paperwork
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area
  • Communicate clearly, both written and orally, with Assistant Fleet Managers, Fleet Manager and VP of Operations


Job Requirements and Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED certificate
  • Post-secondary certificate or training as a mechanic (a plus)
  • 2 to 5 years of experience with diesel equipment repair
  • Welding experience (a plus)
  • Manual dexterity
  • Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record
  • MUST be able to travel in Eastern half of the United States
  • CDL B or A (a plus)


Physical Requirements:

  • Daily lifting of items over 50 lbs., with or without the use of mechanical aids
  • Ability to spend all day outdoors exposed to weather and stand for long periods of time
  • Full use of hands and fingers as there is use of precision or semi-precision tools
  • Daily basic physical exertion, such as bending and twisting, lifting, climbing, pulling, pushing, or carrying
  • Work Location: On the road/Charlotte, NC
